Joe your sense of humour and joie-de-vivre always made you an attraction inside of the sand sculpture tent in Quebec City. We missed you this year but everyone had a feeling that you were there in spirit. Thank you

Joe, you died too early untimely before we could see you again and your works of sand art. Your smile while you were in Japan much attracted all of us. When we had a nice reunion with your mother 35 years after you left Japan, your mother told us proudly about you and your works attracting so many people in Hawaii. As you are much younger, we were waiting for a better opportunity to visit Hawaii to see your works without thinking of your such earlier death. It is our great regret to have missed you and your works before we have nice reunion with you. May we add our sincere sympathy to that of the many who knew and admired you, Joe.

Dear Joe,

If somebody has to go, it's always too soon ...
But I know that you are building castles with the clouds, and whenever I look up, I will see an artwork of you, thank you for being with us in Lommel for the lost 2 years!

My condolacions to all family and friends !

Joe was my friend. We met in a ceramics class in 1974. Joe and I had many wonderful adventures together. I was very fortunate to have been his friend. He had a profound impact upon my life. Joe, thank-you for being you.
-- Always, Guanito.

So proud of Joe

Joe--I know I was not your favorite sister, and you were my favorite brother. I have been so proud of you over the many years, especially in your art. I smile to think that perhaps you are now making cloud sculptures, and when I see clouds looking rather artsy, I'll know it is your handy work..May God keep you, sweet brother. See you again at the Throne!!!!! I love you.

To my Only Son

Dear Son: The day you were born I knew the mold was broken, you are unique in your own way, and lived life to the fullest. I have always loved you and always will, to lose a child is the hardest thing to ever bear. You lived your life the way you always wanted too, with wonderful friends at your side, and family that was always there for you if you needed them. We have seen many places in the world, and I am fortunate to have such a son that touched so many hearts and lives, its comforting to know that you were loved not only in my heart but around the world in many hearts. Sometimes I wish our lives could have been different in one way or another. When I heard of your passing I was devastated, however, reading sites such as this gives me comfort that you were always taken care of amongst people you love, and that love you. I cherish the day that I get to meet with you again, our family that is waiting for us. Julieta, please watch over my baby boy, he is my only son and a special light in my life. I'll always love you Joe maize. Love, Mom.

Wow......what an amazing life!

Jackie & family - my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I only met Joe once or twice but always knew he was a special person. This web site confirms that he lived an incredibly amazing life.... full of fun, friends and of course SAND. May he be at peace with his friends and family who have left before him.

G.I. JOE

hey G.I.joe,
i still can't believe you're gone, it's gonna take a while to sink in.
i first met you in august of 1998 in Quebec at my first international sand contest. you walked by a clump of us near the end of the contest and pointed at each of us and said, "you're a loser, your a loser, you have a chance, you're a loser..." and i thought, who is this guy?! the nerve! then the inevitable jello shots were passed around and fun was had by all...
you drove me bonkers sometimes but you were also one of the first people to lend a hand when i needed it. thanks for all your stories.
i just know you're still stirring up what makes the grass grow green and making everyone laugh,
love swee'pea

Until we meet again, you will be in my thoughts and in my prayers.
